  Overview

The Stock Market is one of the leading markets at the Tel-Aviv Stock Exchange.

A share is a security that marks a portion of ownership in a corporation as well as it represents a share of the company's capital. Ownership is determined by the number of shares a person owns relative to the number of outstanding shares.

Owning stock also confers the right to vote in the company's general assembly of shareholders, which vets major decisions made by management.

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange is the home turf on which corporate Israel raises capital to finance investments and activities.

In addition to shares, many other instruments are traded on the TASE, such as bonds, warrants, derivatives, index-linked notes, options and futures.

Stock Indices

Indices are statistical measures reflecting changes in the securities market. The index is essentially an imaginary portfolio of securities representing a particular market or a portion of the market. Change in an index represents a change in value of the investment for better (profit) or worse (loss).

The TASE computes and disseminates several stock indices that are compounded, based on market capitalization or sector criteria. For example, the TA-25 index measures the average price level of the 25 largest stocks in terms of market capitalization, while the BlueTech-50 index represents the price level of the 50 largest technological and biomedical stocks.
